Donate to the Community One Foundation and your contribution will help
strengthen the 2SLGBTQ+ community throughout the Greater Toronto Area,
including the regions of Durham, Halton, York and Peel.
Our grants are 100% funded by people like you. Each donation helps support organizations that are working helping meet the multitude of critical community needs, and are representing the 2SLGBTQ+ community to broader society to create better understanding and inclusiveness.
When Community One began back in 1980 as the Lesbian & Gay Community Appeal, the idea was to start funding projects that would help build opportunities and a sense of community on the hard-fought gains we had just begun to achieve. We have made monumental strides in equality since that time, but there are still many underserved communities under the 2SLGBTQ+ banner that need inclusion and support.
Grants help fund things like queer-positive education programs, sports for queer youth, programs and performances in the arts, Pride events, community outreach, social support groups and organizations offering AIDS support and prevention services. Every year the Community One Foundation receives a multitude of requests for funding. We’re proud that our Rainbow Grant recipients represent diverse identities and needs of many communities, but unfortunately we cannot fulfill every request, and many important projects are left unfunded.
Donate and make a huge difference to the Community One Foundation, to the projects we fund and to the thousands of people that these projects serve. Every donation helps.

Estate planning is a powerful way to express your values and to care for your partner, family, and community. All of us should make plans for our estates, but such plans are especially important for LGBTTIQQ2S people, whose lives and loves may not be fully recognized by society. With proper planning, you can make sure your wishes are fulfilled, possibly lower your estate tax, and also create powerful change.
There are many ways to be charitable through your estate. Some of the easiest ways are to name the Community One Foundation as a beneficiary in your will, retirement plan or life insurance. These types of gifts have the ability to aid the Foundation with making great leaps forward in programming and grant-making.
One of the simplest things you can do is leave money, also known as a bequest, to organizations you care about via your will. By leaving a bequest to the Community One Foundation, you will help to build a stronger and healthier LGBTTIQQ2S community for generations to come.
Because your will is a legal document you should consult an attorney. See our Sample Language page to learn how to include a gift to the Foundation in your will.
Many associations, businesses, recreation organizations and employee groups recognize the importance of social responsibility. A donation or project for a charity can strengthen relationships by rallying a group around a common cause. By making a contribution to the Community One Foundation, your group will have a broad impact on the LGBTTIQQ2S community. To support your fundraising efforts, Community One can provide outreach materials and guest speakers, where available.
Our grant funding comes entirely from people like you who care about our community and who want to make it a better place to live now and in the future.
The gift of volunteering your time with the Community One Foundation is invaluable to us. We are always looking for help in areas such as communications, events, project management and corporate sponsorships.
If you are interested in volunteering with us, please download and fill out our volunteer form and email it to info@communityone.ca. Not only will your time make a huge difference to us, it’s also a fun way to connect with the LGBTTIQQ2S communities of the GTA.
