Muslim Pride Toronto 2022 is a community-led collaborative hybrid festival creating opportunities for queer and trans Muslims in the GTA (and beyond) to build connections, celebrate, and share skills. We strive to center the brilliance of Black queer and trans Muslims & to disrupt Islamophobia within mainstream LGBTQ spaces.
Muslim Pride Toronto is a grassroots-led collaboration to celebrate and honour the multitude of queer and trans Muslim experiences and perspectives in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and beyond. They began in 2020, through a collaboration of ScrapFest with the Institute of Islamic Studies (at the University of Toronto). Muslim Pride has curated and organized virtual festival programming, bringing together artists and community members from Canada, the US and the UK.
Muslim Pride’s project is committed to 2SLGBTTQ+ communities, and fills a gap for queer and trans Muslims during Pride season. Given rising Islamaphobia, community connections are needed more than ever. Their programming is unique in that it brings together artists across discipline, community leaders from across geography, and fosters a sense of celebration and inclusion.
