Call for Board Members of Community One Foundation

Join us for a rewarding opportunity to build on over 40+ years of volunteerism and community building by donating your time and expertise/experience! We are actively seeking new board members.

Community One Foundation acknowledges and is committed to addressing historical inequities within our organization. We encourage applications from marginalized communities, including those who identify as Indigenous, women, trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, Black, people of colour, and persons with disabilities.

Established in 1980, Community One Foundation provides grants to LGBTTIQQ2S community projects in Greater Toronto Area including Durham, Halton, Peel and York Regions, focusing on the areas of arts and culture, health and social services, and research and education. The Foundation also promotes community philanthropy through strategic partnerships such as the Bill 7 Award and the LGBT Giving Network, and oversees the annual selection of the Steinert & Ferreiro Award.

We are currently accepting applications for new board members to help ensure the ongoing success of this incredible volunteer-led organization.   We have a working board, and all members are expected to commit to participating in and/or leading committee work.

Our board currently leads many important streams of work; some as established committees – including the Rainbow Grants Committee, the Steinert & Ferreiro Committee, the Strategy Committee, in addition to Fundraising, Communications and Finance/Treasury.

In particular, we are looking for board members who can provide leadership in the following areas:

  1. Digital communications and marketing
  2. Fundraising
  3. Community engagement & advocacy
  4. Events and project management / planning

Board members are required to attend a monthly board meeting (generally the first Monday of every month), a monthly committee meeting, participate in occasional community and Community One Foundation events, and work on their focus areas outside of meetings. We estimate board member obligations as ranging between 8-10 hours per month.   Board members have the opportunity to serve for up to two consecutive two-year terms.   Board members are generally appointed and voted in at our annual AGM in May; however – the board can appoint board member(s) before the AGM for any current openings.

We are welcome applications from across the Greater Toronto Area as Board Meetings, although currently held virtually due to COVID, are generally hosted in-person at The 519 Community Centre (519 Church Street – Toronto, ON).
